Who is better, Raja Hasan or Toshi, Decide for yourself.
Check out Saritha’s hilarious post on latest Star Voice Of India Episode. I wish I could write like that. Anyway, Saritha feels that SRGMP is more popular and has more traction. Checking comments on my YouTube videos, I found that people think Raja Hasan sung ‘Teri Deewani’ better than Toshi. So I decided to see Raja Hasan’s performance, here’s the video:
All I want to say is,

Anyone who thinks Raja Hasan did a good job of singing ‘Teri Deewani’ needs to immediately go to an ENT specialist and get some treatment. No, seriously. First, he rushes through the song as if he has to catch 5pm local train at Dadar. And when he says ‘Bebas Aur ..’, I felt as if I am listening to some pandit doing Satya Narayan puja. And why would he screw up the lyrics? Lyrics of the song does not read ‘Lut gayi mein, Mit gayi mein’. It reads ‘Mar gayi mein, Lut gayi mein’. Only thing going for him was his powerful voice. I agree completely that he has wonderful voice but I am not sure about his singing capabilities. And yes, can anyone help find restroom to Fardin, he looked as if he needs to attend nature’s call, badly.

Wasn’t that a moving performance? For me, it was. Heck, I liked it so much, I launched this site to spread the word about good show that is Star Voice Of India.

That’s a good one,J….”And when he says ‘Bebas Aur ..’, I felt as if I am listening to some pandit doing Satya Narayan puja”….is too funny.Raja’s voice echoes in an auditorium,leaving everyone mesmerized.But,I dont like the fact that he forgets the lyrics very often and is getting stuck in a genre.

Toshi was definitely better. Hear the lower notes when Raja sings “Teri Deewani..” ..They’re bearly audible. I was moved by Toshi’s performance definitely~
What you miss out is Raja’ consistency. Absolutely no doubts on Toshi’s wonderful performance with Teri deewangi. But it has been all downhill since. The performance in front of Sonu Nigam was simply mediocre.
There’s a vital difference, given both singers’ fetish to improvise on originals - Raja was singing to a track, while toshi was to a live band. The latter helps quite a bit in impromptu variations.
And I can’t help noting the similarities between the two. If Toshi was on SRGMP - it would have been a walkover for Rajastan.
Toshi does a very good job, but the original is special because of the vocal textures and the feel that it gives. So no comparisons. Raja has a great voice. He could have done here.
Toshi can kiss his ass, he sucks and sound like sonu nigam trying to beat kailash kher there is no comparison, Raja hassan is the best even if he did make a few mistakes but there is no possible way that toshi is better then Raja, raja is the best and will always remain the bes, maybe u should listen to it again and do the right thing
I think it is lil bit difficult to make out any differnce between these two greats but i feel that Toshi is having upper hand on raja hasan.To me Toshi is much much better then Raja Hasan.

Toshi is pretty good but if you listen carefully he makes a mistake around 3:15. It was a slight timing issue. If you look at the lady judge, she picks up on it. He is still really good though. However, I think Emon sounds better than both of them. To be fair, you should add him to this poll.

Well I shall say whoever says Toshi is better then Raja should see that Toshi is already back home.
Raja has already sung a big number for Shankar Ehsaan Loy who are one of the leading music directors in India.
So please dont make a comparision here.
There is no comparision between Raja and Toshi and this will be proved in times to come.
Raja has a great divine voice and mistakes now made will not be made in recording studios where the songs are recorded line by line.
I am not a specialist in making judgment on any of the singer but me as end user of this soft skills. To me Toshi sings and makes the song as if he is being into the song. I could not listen the complete song once by Raja, but I could listen it many times not only Dewani, all other song sung by Mr Toshi.
Main plus point Toshi has over not only Raja, but also lots of growing singer is that he signs the song from heart, HE FEELS THE SONG… and gets into the song, during his signing. This is not easy to get that quality so early in the career.
This is my 2 cents..
Raja and toshi are both good , however the song TERI DEEWANI needs a thrust power in the voice and raja has done that. Raja sang the song much much better than toshi. Raja has the power in his voice i didn’t see that in toshi (sorry) as i said both are good but for this song Raja takes the cup.
Raja has the divinity in his voice so when he sang it touched my heart i don’t mean only mine but a lot of peoples heart.

Fan of Raja here. But to cut the long story short, Toshi was better than Raja in this song. Not for the alaap but for his beautifully sung mukhra.In fact, anyone knowing little bit of classical, can point out lots of flaws in Raja’s mukhra where he kept the notes high through-out.
Toshi normally goes out of control while singing even simple compositions. Raja is much more gifted and restrained in that respect.
Emon in II3 sang the same song with much less harkat and importantly, much less mistakes than that committed by Raja. His voice is good.

Guyz no offence to Toshi but Raja is Raja. Raja hassan is an excellent singer. Not just “Ratoo” singers like most of them. He has solid singing background. So you people are comparing apples and oranges together. I heard him singing only few lines with his father in one of the clips, and that is more than enough to know his capability.

You should have seen Mr Sanu just getting inferiority complexes when he heard Toshi singing. Toshi has been removed due to lack of backing and politics. Plople who are poor has no say at the end… They get sidelined, others just walk over them and taken advantage of…

Everybody on this site I’ve no offence on Toshi.He is a wonderful singer we all know.I want to kuestion u ppl if u really like him so much then why is he out? Why didn’t u guys vote for him big out.I mean a deserving person has left Voice Of India and then u ppl comment on who is better.Wasn’t it ur duty to vote for him when nedded.If u say he’ out cos of politics then why didn’t u viewers complain against it.Why r we wasting our time and money just to see good singers out.So it means that public voting is being made a mockery of.Whoever’s doing it the real reason why Toshi’s out is public itself.
Now coming to the comparison between Raja and Toshi let me tell whoever has asked this thing shud understand that they r on different shows.No point comparisons.Infact u don’t compare two very good singers; when u say one is better in one song immediately the other would sing the next song better.Some ppl on this site have said one hell of a thing against Raja.I’ve never found such articles against any Voice Of India contestants on SRGMP sites.So why u ppl make low of urself by commenting such things on a singer.Why don’t u just enjoy their singing.If u criticise then do it as a constructive measure and not in a demoralising way.

Well after reading all these comments I specially saw yesterday SVOI wildcard special to hear Toshi. After hearing him (no offences pls.) wat i can say is that no doubt Toshi is a very good singer but pls. dont compare him with Raja. Raja is in a class of his own he is the one who stands out in the crowd with an aura surrounding him.
If you are comparing two of them in this particular song (teri deewani) then i’d request u to upload the song ‘upar khuda’ which Raja performed earlier and Toshi performed yesterday. I can take a bet that after seeing Raja’s performance in this song everybody will go ga-ga over him, he is brilliant in this song. Raja sang the last few lines with so many variations and reached a classy heart touching note in the ending words ‘tujhe dhonde ‘ye-e-ee’ nazar’ ….even the original singer would have been proud of that.
There is no point in comparing both of them but still if u want to compare, for me Toshi stands nowhere near Raja (i again repeat no offences pls.) Raja is a singer who is born once in a while.

Toshi is an excellent singer in comparison to Raja Hassan.Toshi’s pronunciation is very very correct.Raja Hassan’s voice is also very good but Toshi knows how to sing a songs.I like both but Toshi has quality.Raja has made a mistake in songs of Teri deewani but Toshi not.
I wld like to personally say this to Mrs.Saritha.
In musical point of view,Toshi’s teri diwani was powerful and lovely to express his feelings to his lovergirl.On the otherhand Raja’s teri diwani was a talk with the almighty.A cry of emotions,pain,happiness and what not.Toshi sang with the same emotions of kailash whereas Raja was incorporating his own emotions.Moreover u have to move ur speed up and down in teri diwani.
A real musician will accept Raja was 5% better than Toshi in singing teri diwani.U have to go to Hindustani and classical music class to understand that and we need not go to ENT specialist.I’m also a Toshi fan but my view is each one is best in one or the other so Don’t do such silly comparisions any more.

I am a regular viewer of VoI and like Toshi for the way he sings. Nothing much to say about Raja, I never have watched SRGP. Watched his rendition of Teri Deewani… good.
However, ‘J’, what have you done here by launching this ‘who is better’ stuff? Two good singers, participating in two different shows, trying to build a career. And in this forum, fans (wellwishers?) of these singers bitching about each other. Best compliment one can give to two future singing talents.

Raja And Toshi, first of all everyone should understand that both the singers are from one jounar only. Apart from that both sang that particular song in their way and both of them was quiet refreshing, but the comment made by some lunatic in the very first para, proves that it was a job of an immature child that does not know anything of singing and music, and for your information I am someone who a rich musical background. And Tohi’s voice if for some songs only and Raja can comfortably sing all the songs to his comparisons. I believe if you talk of singing then any given point of time I’ll prefer Mussrat Abbas over Toshi.

I dont want to downgrade Toshi, but you should have kept your mind and heart very very narrow to say that Raja sang this song badly, infact he did it so lovely that many fallen for him in this song like me. And I later heard of Toshi’s version, I must say that he ruined this song, he took unnecessary aalaps and his modification did not sound better…Raja’s modification was far better, to appreciate it you must open your ears and mind…. if you culd’t you better go for an ENT specialist….

Toshi is a novice in front of raja, Raja ki gali mein aake uske sufi style ka gaana koi nahi gaa sakta…..Toshi cant match to Raja’s powerful voice and energy levels. Those who feels that low notes of “teri diwani” were better than raja, I want them to take some lessons in music. They should understand that Toshi took a short cut way, by saying Teri Diwani in “tar saptak” range, instead of the original “mandra sapta”.

To answer this question about who is better. Definately our RAJA HINDUSTANI is far more better than Toshi. RAJA is best and frankly saying there is no comparision in this. Raja has stayed in our heart forever and remain till our whole life while Toshi is back to his home and no one is taking his name anymore. We all are interested about RAJA and looking to his website everday for any new news about him.

I would prefer Raja over Toshi any day. Raja is a classic. You don’t come across such singers often. He would leave his mark in the Industry. Time will tell. Toshi’s voice is weak when compared to Raja’s voice. He appears to be putting so much effort, whereas Raja sang it effortless. Divinity, originality and one of it’s kind - All these compliments go to Raja. Toshi, you are good too. Good luck to both.

Ok, I’m a new fan of Raja. I LOVE his voice. Toshi is good as well, but each have their own style and something that the other NEEDS. Toshi needs that power in his voice that Raja has (and I must admit - it’s very peaceful and divine) and Raja needs that skill with the timing and the low voice. But even without these things they’re still good. It doesn’t even matter if Toshi wasn’t in the show anymore. Who cares? He’s still the same - & improving. And Raja deserves to make an album (I would buy it!).
Seriously, they shouldn’t be compared (but obviously they Will be). They have their own strengths, and their own fans so it’s better not to put any of them down just cus of personal opinion. And I mean ‘personal’ opinion. Saying ‘oh since i like this singer, the other ones are all crap’ and then we find every insult in the book to give to that singer AND try take away his fans is ANNOYING and stupid. Imagine if the singers had to read comments like that.
Anyways, I still gravitate towards Raja and it’s cus I like his voice better. His performance needs to improve (and imagine if it did! =O ) Wish both Toshi and Raja the best of luck, hope they make it big in this world, and give us a different era of music.

How can anyone think of raising the esteem of this favourite singer just by downgrading the others and calling them crap.Everybody has his or her choice.U can’t ridicule someone who does not happen to have same preferences as you.
For instance, I like Ghazals ,sufi songs and soft numbers very much .So I would prefer the voices of Amant, Mussarat and Ishmeet(though I have heard him singing only a couple of times, so I can’t say anything about his other performances.). But this does not mean that I slam out thers who would prefer other singers , say for instance Mauli for her style of songs ,the peppy numbers. I like Raja also especially for his performances like Allah ke bande , Vande Mataram , Piya Haji Ali,and many others. I have listened to only 2 performances of Toshi and I liked them too. But I liked Raja better, May be i am being biased and also theaudio quality of Toshi’s performances did not happen to be very good.I downloaded it from esnips.com. So I believe I must listen to a good audio quality mp3 of Toshi’s performances. But even both are excellent singers and will improve over time as nobody is perfect and “BEST one this earth”. So lets cheer them and pray for their success.

While Toshi (may) sound more classical, he over-does it. There are songs where you just need to enjoy singing and make others enjoy. Raja is amazing when it comes to enjoy singing a song. More importantly, he can put the entire audience on their feet.

Toshi is superb. I think don’t compare the Raja Hasan with Toshi.
I think I have a resonable idea bout singing. I m singer myself but I am not trained. I admit I have listend to Raja less after I listened to Toshi. Toshi is simply a far better singer but as far as voice quality is concerned Raja is better. When song depends too much on voice quality. It just becomes hard to compare.
Some one added dard-e-disco link to prove Raja is better. That is true in that song. However If he had even a little sense of music. Without listening to Judges comments one can easily make out Toshi had serious problem with throat.
Another reader make a comment for teri dewani Toshi utube link at 3:15s. Yes I picked up Alka’s reaction during song. I am not sure she had any comment. The pause in song was deliberate?
Most common singing has a sur, a timing, a volume for each word of song. If this is not right it sounds horrible. But when there is a controlled deviation word by word. It can sound extra ordinary. This is a very powerful technique when not used properly it can wreck a song. Most good singers can deviate sur (I am not talking about harkat this is a larger deviation), to deviate volume is more diffcult?, to deviate timing (alone) is easy. But to do all this together word by word needs a very high skill.

I feel both Toshi and Raja are very good singers, both have their own positives and negatives. However, I personally find Raja better because of his overall presentation. Toshi sang wonderfully well, especially the song ‘Teri Deewani’, but if you listen to his other performances, he tries to put in a lot in every song, but he does go out of tune at times or sometimes his voice seems worn out. Raja has that crude touch in his voice that has a raw appeal, and I somehow feel Toshi is always in a competition, whereas Raja is truely performing, he is more bothered about music and not votes.. But at the end of the day, I feel both sing wonderfully well, hope to see them rise higher, especially Raja because his voice is unique..

I am an artist myself and in my experience it’s the natural talent that counts most. Without that ingredient your efort remains raw. Raja Hassan is a spontenious entertainer and the audience recognizes that. Best wishes to him!

Hi! this is sanjana. My opinion is that raja is far better than toshi.I can tell this because many bollywood stars have attended the show and said you are brilliant and have signed a contract with him and on the dus kahaniyan episode everybody danced with him with great energy. One thing i did not like about these comments is that all the members who supported toshi are behind one reason that once he did not perform well so he is a bad singer. a person should see the final outcome. why are you behind one reason? I will agree that toshi is better only when a competition is organized and the top judges of india judge them and see who is best but i feeel raja is better.
Toshi’s broken little finger can sing better than Raja. Raja struggled to sing the song, Toshi flowed over it as if it was a lullaby. Raja’s got a nice voice, but Toshi sounds like a God. Toshi’s better, no doubt. Anyone who thinks otherwise must be some relation of Raja’s.
