All videos of 27th October have been uploaded. Once again, excuse me as videos are not uploaded on time, I have a real struggle to spend time between
1. to catch my favorite show,
2. update my site for wonderful readers like you
3. process and upload the videos and
4. write commentary about the performances.
Today, number 3 task took a long time and there is no time for my commentary. Anyway, do visit the site and check out the comments section, there are some very passionate folks (A big shout out to Zaki, Rossi, AS, Anand, Shastri and many more..) who are discussing all the performances. To give you an example, check out AS’ comment about Toshi’s learnability [If you have worked with Infosys before, the word will sound familiar. ;)] .

I think its been a established fact now that Toshi has been outstanding in the show. But what is not talked about is that he is a good learner too..in life! This is what I mean by this:
He never seemed to have believed in ‘emotional card’ earlier. But when he realised that it works, to the extent that it gives you that slight but a much required push, it was already quite late…He was eleminated!!!
And he saw not only his other peers playing this card repeatedly, but also the judges…So he tried that once during the wild card round!
The VOI judges (except Abhijit… Congrats Abhijit… I think you are the only one and a true neutral judge of the show), more than Harshit are trying hard to strike the emotional chords among the audience by regularly referencing his dadi. Somehow I thing these judges sounded very phony when Inrfan’s elimination was announced and Harshit was saved! We are all sitting very far from the reality…Who know what happens behind the scenes. But Toshi has seen all this at a much closer distance! Hint…hint!
What I mean to say it that, he might have realized that being an accomplished singer is not good enough (unfortunately)…giving excellent performances may also not be suffice. Who knows there could be some tempering in the public votes! If these judges are so partial to Harshit and Abhas in front of the whole world, you can imagine how they would be behaving offline!)
Also, these judges (except Abhijit) don’t really support Toshi…but they pretend to be doing so becoz of
A. his excellent performances
B. Huge public support.In the light of all these facts, if Toshi gives a reference of his ailing bua, I think it is *required* to combat similar references by other contestants. Its being pragmatic. And he does not overplay emotional card. After all, everything is fair in love and war!

hello j i also agree with u all harshid emotion drama his dadi but very sad juges are with him if u note harshid voice soo soo similier kumarsanu and that is noted by abhijeet if u remember before bemisal 12 a other one contestant voice like kumarsanu and he sung jiye to jiye kese that time lalit and aadesh said we want nutral voice not similier voice we have kumarsanu already we have sonunigam already we want fresh and new voice so what happen now with lalit and aadesh why they supporting so much harshid why they don,t say we want nutral voice and u sung like a kumarsanu u saw in yesterday episode they said oo its great he sung like a kumarsanu o common juges before few weeks u said other statemant now u said other statemant plz chose nutral voice woh can sing all type of song i think its toshi woh can sing romantic song emotion song qawali, rocks,sufi song ang offcourse he has strong classical back groung and he is the best stage performer also so i think toshi is the best choice for this title
Very well written comments by AS,zaki and AJ in the previous video. analytical judgement by three of you is excellent. i agree with AS , this week it will be judges favourite vs public favourite. As usual,the judges are showing open partiality to harshit and again it was a recap of his dadi. Saturday episode was very interesting when abhijit said , that abhas, toshi and ishmeet sing in their original voice but harshit copies kumar sanu to which lalit said ,so what ? its a good thing. Anyway,we are not foolish like them and all of us know who is a good singer? Past episodes ishmeet has shown improvement but still has a long way to go.
I think all of us are matured enough to judge who among the four deserves to be in the final 3? i have been watching this show from day 1 and among the boys , irfan , toshi and abhas were and are excellent. Destiny and luck also play an important part.

First of all, thumbs up for making and updating this site. I know it’s time-consuming work but trust me, your readers appreciate it!
Right now on to the ranting.
I am PISSED OFF with how partial some of the judges are. They are wayy too dramatic and I think they can really sway judgments of easily influenced viewers- which, I assume, there are a lot of in India (WHOLE other story!).
Secondly, I don’t know how relevant this is but I want to discuss this issue anyway…
Does anyone else think shows like VOI put way too much emphasis on which state the contestants are from and NORTH and SOUTH and things like that? Why are they creating so many barriers?!? It angers me because in a competition like this, things like these (i.e. which state a contestant is from) shouldn’t matter at all. Were not competing against countries here… its VOICE OF INDIA. I know I sound like SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) from Chak De but I really believe that the emphasis on States creates unnecessary, unwanted conflict.
It blew my mind when they had to compare votes by removing the votes from that persons state. HAS IT COME THIS FAR? There are many problems associated with this method of “comparing votes”. THe problem of unity is only one of them; Some states are larger/more modernised then others. What they’re doing is really unfair.
I wonder what they would do if I were participating in VOI because I really don’t know which “state” I’d come under. Damn they’d have some problems!
It saddens me a little.
Can we have a little bit of unity please?

A FEW FACTS ABOUT IRFAN
- He used to work in Wipro, Hyderabad and was doing very well for himmself.
- He has been learning music in a traditional school for many years now. His guru is a natitonal award winner.
- He has been looking for an appropriate platform in music for the last three years - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and then VOI (*With its unfair judges who speak about all aspects but music*)
- His heart of Gold: He has performed without creating any fuss in many of the local schools singing amidst the students.
- His parents have given two years time, if he does not attain a tangible success in this time he will have to return to the software field.
THE DIFFERENCE:
Irfan never spoke of all this to gain sympathy votes, he could have easily talked about his sick relatives, the other personal problems he faces (which I know cause I am part of the Hyderabad IT Industry and have networked to find out).
But he firmly believes that he should be voted only for his talent.
INDIA’s DECISION:
In the neutral zone he got the highest votes.
FOR SOME STATISTICS:
ONLY 24% of Andhra watches/understands Hindi. And only a percentage of them have cable and vote. So ALKA YAGNIK, instead of making derisive comments try and support the guy who respects you so much, and hello, you are his mentor, remember? At least don’t look SO happy when he is eliminated. Lost all my respect for you woman, you are cheap. Sorry. But that is the truth.

I think Toshi mentioned his BUA wasnt either Emotional card or learnability…to my opinion it was a reality…inspite of being unprepared he sang so well…ispite of his family being in trouble he sang well…its not sympathy…it was his reality at that point of time…its within the context…not out of context like bringing Harshit’s dadi on stage,in clips, or Jotin jee saying dt he should stay becoz he has a blind dadi(lol).
To me Toshi’s saying that was not for sympathy…why would he need that?…he sang well…ppl r with him…it was his true feeling at that point which he expressed…he told that to show his satisfaction.

Another thing, may be at that day TOSHI sang the sad song so well with a strong feeling becoz of sadness he had in him…sadness comes from his BUA’s incidence…it can be a reason…thats why he admitted it…come on what ever it is, but it wasnt a DRAMA…it was real..it wasnt about creating a sad atmosphere…it was his true feeling…and he has the right to say it.
again, if the VOI team is against TOSHI then why should they capture such a dialouge??

If we say that Toshi is “learning” it’s not at all wrong. Toshi never asked for sympathy for Votes before he was eliminated. It was only Harshit who bought his DADI on stage for Votes.
Now Toshi has learned that in this world we need to be tricky sometimes where people play politics openly and judges except Abhijit supporting Harshit just because his DADI’s wish should come true..what Nonsense…sounds very stupid…These judges instead of judging contestants based on their talent are supporting their favourite contestants based on regional and other reasons. This is what meant by UNFAIR.

Again it was UNFAIR for such an excellent singer IRFAN (who is far better than Harshit, Abhaas)getting eliminated because of cheap tricks and politics by judges like Aadesh and
Hats of Shastri) IRFAN was a true professional who never asked for sympathy. He also has his own personal problems and also left his job to participate in VOI and become a singer. He also has his parents, relatives having lots of expectations. He also has his DADI, NANI everyone but never asked for sympathy..

It is also UNFAIR that ABHILASHA and IRFAN do not have any chance now to come back but all contestants who were eliminated got a chance through WILD CARD entry to come back.If there is anything like WILD CARD entry, then it should have been conducted before the finals of VOI so that all contestants who are eliminated before finals will get a final chance to come back.
What about IRFAN, ABHILASHA and the other contestant who will get eliminated in the next week. who will give them another chance. This is what UNFAIR means…

A good episode after a long long time, the overall quality of singing was a notch higher than the last few weeks.
Divya in white was so angelic and looked a million bucks.
Harshit was awesome in both the songs and his voice quality is ideal for play back singing (but watching him singing is always a nightmare, he just doesnt show any expressions for the mood of the song)
It was disgusting to see the clip were all the judges burst into laughter when Irfan was eliminated (winning and loosing is part of the game but the way Irfan and Sumitra were treated by most of the judges right thru the contest is lot to be desired)
I am feeling very much sad for Irfan. My wonder is Toshi and Ishmeet .. All sardar’s are voting in mass to make their guy winner . And toshi- I know this guy is incapable fellow for play back singing . He sings every song as Qawalli .This idiot has brought back unecessary. He should be ashamed of telling his financial conditions always before India. They are many people who are dying without food. Are you worse than Them you sufi Rouge? Answer this. You are truly a Qawalli Biassed and you are a good singer at dead ritual songs.

Seems everyone is worried about Harshit and his dadi. Whats wrong with that. If he was dumb and useless then we could say he is using his dadi to get votes but come on hes got the voice, even Dia Mirza and Manoj Bajpai and every other guests have all commented on his voice quality. Yes now we have reached a place where it is state votes. Ishmeet had low votes from neutral places but was safe cos of Punjab votes. Why can’t we leave emotions aside and vote on talents. This wildcard entry was wrong. Why didn’t all Toshi’s fans vote for him before and when he got eliminated then it all Toshi. Anu, right on … Toshi is good but not that great to be VOI. He is good in the sufi/folk genre (but after watching Mussarat’s sufi renditions on Saregamapa, Toshi pale’s in comparision by a long way)
Same with Ahbaas … he is good but after seeing Aneek’s performances … Ahbaas has a long way to go !
Hey i am Gora I play music and i sing but at the same time I love indian tunes and songs, too much to learn. Being a Gora The versatile in the voice is Ishmeet my first choice and second Harshit. I am not muslim, hindu, sikh, christin or any other. We are all human beings, just love what you believe.God will help you.For Ifran, Toshi and Abbas hell of singers. Belive me they will do excellent with their own magic voice like Gulam Ali Khan and some others.Some how their voices are not suiting as a play back singers. Singers make more money and get famous because of their own voice. Top 4 means that you already have achived your Goal. Their are over 3 billions peoples watching you guys my friends.

Shweta, Toshi will be out so not to worry. Toshi is one hell of a singer. You will see him playing like all pakistani and hindustanis sufi’s songs and I love it. I totaly agree with Anu and Niki. there is no question that these singers like Toshi, Abhas,Ismeet , Irfan are/were the greatest contestants in this show, however , if you pay attention to the first episodes and comments from the judges and I qoute ” you are a good singer , there is not doudt , but this is not the voice we are looking for”. So among of all of these great contestants , I think Harshit has the strongest and perfect voice quality. Now he might not be necassarly ones favourite singer, it does not mean that he is at this level because of his dadi ma or whatever else we might think, No, absoutly false believe. if he loves his grandma this much ,and mentions her name periodicaly, this prooves his great personality,that no matter what he can be/become ,even a top singer, still he loves and respects his grandma. hats off to you Harshit. Please people we should admire these singers such as Toshi, Harshit that they want to become a star and make their parent’s, grand parent’s dream come true. Please support these singers,as I have always indicated , at this stage all 4 of these singers are winners. But as we all agree only one can be SVOI, and I strongly believe that , if it is based on voice quality, it would be Harshit, no doudt. God bless you all.

Masoud Safi, Things changed over night. The message I got from good soures.
Toshi has a great voice but I really get annoyed when his fans start getting insecure or worked up whenever somebody comments the other way. His voice is his greatest advocate! And creating ‘war’ on other contestants’ fans wont help him rather will create resentment.
Anyway, my personal favourite is Harshit. I dont recall he ever mentioned his dadi since the episode when all contestants brought there parents on stage. He has a great voice, I wish him all the best!

With due respect to your views… Harshit does not need to mention his Dadi becoz the judges do it for him regularly - including the so-called neutral judge.
In fact even the producer of the show Gajendra Singh got her on stage!
Abhas’ parents and brother get regular coverage on the show as they are in the audience.
Even though I am no Ishmeet fan, I think in the emotion/sympathy stakes Ishmeet and Toshi are the ones left fending for themselves..

Dear Zaki, One quick question, Why in the heck we are more consernd about some ones dadai ma, grand pa , in a voice talent hunt show , then the actual voice quality of the contestant ? I mean , I 100% agree with Sara , He has never mentioned his dadima’s name to get votes, this is us that are more concern about it. Please do not get me worng here but , lets start shifting our focus on some thing else , which is the voice quality of these singers. and get on more analysis of the performances as there is only few episodes left in the show.

As far as analysing voice quality and performance goes here is my take on the remaining contestants:
1: Harshit- Strong voice and pukka sur. Zero originality and zero feel. That is just my opinion.Limited range as a singer. Good at the typical Kishore Kumar, Kumar Sanu songs. Do we want another one? Can he do an “Allah ke Bande”? No way?
2: Abhas- Considering his age, he is a very good singer. But needs to develop depth and maturity which will come with age. I think his lack of maturity was exposed in the “laga chunri mein daagh” duet with Irfan. Not ready just yet.
3: Ishmeet: Whilst I dont think he is a good singer, amongst the current lot he has the best voice quality. However, he has miles to go as a singer.
4: Toshi: Has an original voice and is an accompished singer. I admit he does not have the best voice quality .. but he is the best singer. He can possibly and “passably” and sometimes even more than that sing the songs that Ishmeet, Abhas and Harshit sing, there is no way in the world they can sing what Toshi sings.
Many times people confuse good voice with good singing. Let alone me.. even SVOI does not know what it wants: just the best voice/best singer/playback singer/live singer?
I would like to think it is a combination of the above. In which case the only real winner could have been Irfan.

I watch SVOI without fail and only record the performances of Irfan and Toshi.
Yaar it would have been a fantastic final between Irfan and Toshi.. they would have brought out the best in each other.

I fully understand how u feel, but music is not about winning and losing.. Irfan has given some brilliant performances and let us cherish them and hope he makes it big…

The saddest part of this show is that it is *only* aimed at earning money. I don’t think organizers care a damn about whether they get best live or playback singer/best voice quality etc. The fate of most of the winners of such shows has a very prototype tack i.e. getting lost in oblivion!
I feel, if VOI had really been concerned about music, the prize for the winner should have been a sponsorship for few years to learn music from one of the maestros of the field, who are not accessible for common people otherwise.
What I liked about TADAP TADAP by IRFAN.
1. It contained the soul of the song: pain and anguish.
2. The notes were spelled with the precision and the glissando were GORGEOUS.
3. He added his own inflictions to the song in 4 different places. This is the improvisation that differentiates a good singer from a good imitator.
4. His facial expressions showed complete involvement.
5. The throw of the voice was very restrained despite the high pitch. This very, very difficult guys, believe me.
6. His reverberations did not falter even once.
7. Each word was articulated with clarity.
8. The ‘Teri Mohabbat Mein’ was in perfect synch with the percussion.

Dear Zaki, I am shouting my total agreement with all of your comments about this show. I think even VOI does not know whether , as zaki said, looking for play back singer, good voice quaity,best live performance ability or some one that has the combination of all three.
SARA, you are right , why not VOI don’t give each of on these contestant a new fresh , composed songs, to see what their voice quality is and how is their ability to pull it off?
tell me if I am wrong Zaki, my alnaysis is :
1. Harshit: excellent voice quality, very strong , confidence, but I agree with you , should pay attention to emotions of the songs too,but it can be learned and imporved, as long as voice quality supports it. right
2. Toshi: He sings all types of songs, seems like has and excellent ability to sing anytype of song perfectly, but , unfortunatly, does not have the voice quality as Harshit or Ishmeet.
3. Abhaas: considering his age and life experience, he is a good singer, and have a long way to go still, there is no question he has a very bright future ahead of him, his voice quality is great and can sing any type of songs with variety of notes, but for the time being, he is not the voice we are looking for ,is he?
4. Ishmeet: great voice, he shows some potential, he has improved by each episodes,but again , as you said, he is still lacks versitality.
I wish Irfan and Arshpreet was still in the show, it would have been an excellent finale with Irfan, Harshit, Arshpreet.

You are right, Irfan gave some memorable performance. My favorite Irfan performance has to be ‘Alvida’ or ‘Laga Chunri Mein Daag.’ But again ‘Tera Jado Chal gaya’ and ‘Rind Posh Maal’ were also so good, just like ‘Lukka Chuppi’ and ‘Piya Haji Ali.’ But I think I will settle for either ‘Dil Chahta hai’ or ‘Tadap Tadap’ actually, cause it was his ‘farewell’ performance.

These days you have a flood of such so-called talent hunt, nay reality, nay whatever-you-call-it shows on almost all the channels. Beyond such shows, it has to be individual caliber and unflinching passion to reach the top, that can keep them alive in people’s memory!

I am just an average fan (not even a great fan like Shastri!) who loves music and has learnt a little bit of music from my Mum. My mum is a trained Dhrupad singer - she lived with her ustad for 14 years from her childhood following the great Hindustani tradition.
I have the utmost respect for artistes who are professionals and yet dont compromise on their art!

All his performances have been very very good and some have been outstanding…
My favourires have been.. in no particular order…
1: In dino dil mera (his first performance).
2: Lukka Chhuppi
3: Roo ba roo (Rang De Basanti)
4: Alvida (just an incredible live performance with scale changes1)
5: Ke Sara Sara (with Arshpreet)
6: Piya Haji Ali
7: Laga Chunri mein daagh (in my opinion Abhas spoilt the song- sorry.. but this shud have been an Irfan solo)
8: Tere Bina Besuwadi (Guru)
9: Tadap Tadap ke is dilse..
My all time favs have to be Lukka Chhuppi and Tadap Tadap.
They were both WOW performances.
I have watched Tadap Tadap recording atleast twenty times since the weekend!

Wow Zaki! Your mother has been practicing Dhrupad! It is the MOST difficult and the Purest form of music form whatever little study I have done of it. That is why there are very few people taking it up now-a-days. The alaap itself lasts for 30 minutes and needs to be an accurate exposition of the Raga.

It is quite an experience sitting in front of an accomplished performer and listening to them live!
I have been lucky enough to have been doing it since as long as I can remember… my Mum’s riyaz used to be a daily “performance” for me!
I am firm believer that a singer cannot be made. We are born with an inherent gift for it. Riyaz and sadhna can only make us better. But if we do not have the inherent gift from God .. no amount of training can help.
However, we all can become better listeners and I believe to enjoy any kind of music, some training in music is essential. It helps us understand what the singer/musician is attempting to do and this way we can appreciate music more.

I completely agree with you, Zaki. The study of music I have done over the last four years, through live concerts and through attending studio recordings, from listening to classical singers expound on the Ragas, to treating my ears to the music of the people from the hills, has helped me improve my understanding of music phenomenally. Perhaps I would not have appreciated the depth and grace of Irfan’s renderings if not for these years of study (which I had done essentially for the novel I am writing, and that has given me infinite wealth in return).

Instead of giving away the bikes repeatedly to one person, why did the organizers not give one to each of the runners up at the final? This would have rewarded all of these hard working finalists in a fair manner.

I have a feeling that Aabhas is safe and thank God Almighty for that. He is the real talent. His performance in Jaane Jaan last week bettered the original (trust me I am very thrifty with making such statements and was upset when Jagjit Singh said that Toshi sand better than Kailsh Kher). But listen to the original track from Saawariya and you will know yourself.
From reading other blogs it appears that Daadi ka Pota is getting the bike this week and the Sufi singer is going out.

This is a double shocker news! Ishmeet can sustain his vote-bank, Abhas can improve but Harshit getting the highest votes is just unbelievable! What has he done so good?…He used be in bottom two for the past two episodes!

Jenny, SRGMP was much better…at least it could sustain substance till the final…And its judges were not disgusting, were mature and behaved like mentors while giving feedback on the contestants’ performance and performance alone…without any mention of their family members, age etc.
If I go down the VOI’s memory lane, first thing that I would remember is the disgusting, useless, worthless jury of judges it had who rejoiced in front of the camera when a good contestant is eliminated, at the cost of their favorite, never provided any constructive feedback, never sounded mature.
Thanks Shastri brother, the news about Irfan made me very happy. He deserves this no doudt, can not wait to have his first CD released. I am so shocked to hear the news about Toshi’s elimination! I thought for sure he would reach finals! I am not a Toshi fan, but I liked a few of his performances in last couple of shows!
My personal fav is Abhaas and am happy he is still in, but I didnt like Wild card! I would be happy if either Harshit or Ishmeet wins coz they were originally there. Abhilasha and Irfaan should have gotten Wild Card chance too.

What if Toshi decided to move out of the show becoz he got a much worthier contract from elsewhere and had to take that up immediately? How I wish it is true! His body language will probably give you some clue in the friday’s episode.

You seem to be a TOO GOOD PERSON to waste ur time and energy on such a cheap n crap show.
The slogan of “Sache surron ki jai jai kar” has been so brutally insulted and slaughtered one wonders how it had been otherwise.
Gajji made a big mistake when selecting the panel of its judges. Aadesh, Lalit and now jatin and Alka are gone to the levels…..they have totally destryed the credibility of this show as well as Gajendra singh.
Lalit continues to taunt Ishmeet w/o finding any musical reasons to base but totally in utter jelousy.
Aadesh, who was a preacher of original voice in SRGMP 2005, has the face now to blatantly admire the copy singing of Harshit.
Jatin has given the “New meanings” to the word of “Neutral” and along with Agni counterparts he has been voicing for harshit due to his “dadi” not for his singing quality (which is not there anyways).
Alka has gutts to say something about “Asool”….my goodness
And even a person like Shan has got involved in politisizing the show by highlighting the States votes drama.. what a cheap effort……just to demorolise poor Ishmeet.
Atleast Abhijeet has been fair most of the time to all contestents (But don’t forget he too disgraced his own Ishmeet for wrong reasons)
Well it has been a circus of jokers as for as ASVOI gurus are concerned and all they have done is a big damage to Star Tv as wellas Gajji’s reputation. They couldn’t give tips to the contestents to improve but only discouragement, fake praise or cheap sympathy and this all speaks for the caliber they possess.
ASVOI has failed to live up to its expectations and its quality deterirated with each passing episode.
In comparison, SRGMP 2007 has been a far far better show despite the disgraceful Hismesh’s stupid antics.
I will appeal to all music lovers watching this show to give atleast a brutal blow to stupid Aadesh, Lalit & Jatin by voting for Ishmeet. After elimination of Irfan and Toshi (which I read on this blog), Ishmeet is the one who deserves to win. He has a very sweet voice, a person with dignity and character.

Don’t get too upset with India/Indian public! these are rigged shows with manipulating results by the tv channels. There is no fault of the public, the fault is with the procedures of these shows where the rich can vote as many times as he wants and the poor one may not vote even once no matter how much music sense either of the above have. These channels are just looting money from the public in the name of entertainment.
I am not an Indian but have great respect for the Indian people towards their sense and passion for music. So don’t disgrace ur origin due to wrongdoings of bunch of hackers ruining the music shows. Take it easy and take care of urself.

I do not know why everybody is so against Harshit. I think Harshit is the best singers in SVOI. Abijeet is the worst judge, he never appreciated Harshit, and looks like he seems to be having some personal issues with Harshit. Every singer is singing the songs already sung by great singers and the closer you sing to the original the better it is. Abhijeet was the one who once said to one singer that we are here to listen like original song not your own creativity added to the song. How can people change so fast? I think Harshit has the strongest command on the SUR that’s why he is able to sing a song almost the same as original. As a matter of fact all the judges keep changing their opinions every now and then. I really do not like when judges try to take sympathy votes for Harshit in the name of his DADI. Toshi is a good singer but he seems to be more in to Qawaali, except couple of songs he has always added some flavor of Qawalli to the song. Ishmeet and Abhaas are good singers too. I think Abhaas and Toshi should have been eliminated before Irfaan because both were already eliminated anyway.

I just dont understand why do you guys get so worked up and start blaming each other when some contestant get voted out every week! Only one person can be VoI, and the rest of them will have to be eliminated! Thats just the way it works! When someone gets voted out, it doesnt mean you have to start blaming the Judges…..or people who like other contestants! And most importantly, in these reality shows…the result is almost ALWAYS unexpected.
Judges favoured and not favoured every contestant st every point right from the beginning. Everyone started “loving” Abhijit when he “adopted” Toshi…and people started saying that he was the best judge of them all……in fact according to me, he needs to grow up the most! All this Wild Card Lafda started because of Abhijit acting like a kid…..Ziddi….Wild Card was unfair……who was out should have remained out! That was manipulating the results!
Whatever…everyone has a right to express their opinion. Its one thing to like a particular contestant..and another to just hate everyone else coz they like other participants!
Like I said…its just a show and these producers play on our these emotions. They just want to increase their TRP’s…..they arent concerned about who is the best of them all…..ultimately…people who deserve would get chances. Like Irfaan..he is already recording a song for Vishesh Films.

Not only that, VOI does not have a stature matching Lata Mangeshkar! But she can definitely preside over if a final is held among all the eliminated contestants!

All this talk about vetoed candidates. The candidates who got thrown out of the show at various points are not necessarily the worst.
This show is so terrible that good candidates are always getting screwed. Abhaas should never have been thrown out to begin with. Toshi never should have been thrown out so early either. Where is the logic in those decisions?

I am really pleased to read your comments over this show and for the first time, i felt as if i am reading some mature person on this forum! very good analysis about the judges!
Though pandit brothers have never been fair to anyone in the show except Harshit, the credibility of aadesh and alka also kept deteriorating day by day! the saving grace in the panel of judges has only been Abhijeet who after making wrong comments on Ishmeet had the guts to apologise in front of the entire public for what he said.. i liked his gesture.But the turn that Shan took in the recent episode was shocking!! I had always liked this guy but his recent neutral zone drama was just intended to further demoralise Ishmeet. Also his comment on Irfan’s elimination when he said, if it continues to be like this, Voice of India will left to a Voice of State! another cheap comment to Ishmeet! And the way these judges rejoiced enjoyed on Irfan’s elimination was again undigestable… The only three singers that deserve the finals were Irfan, Ishmeet and Toshi, Irfan being the most consistent and versatile player, Ishmeet having the best Voice and Toshi the most technically correct Singer… Since two of these three are out, the only deserving one is Ishmeet.. so I urge all the readers to vote for Ishmeet and slap these idiot judges by not letting Dadi Maa’s grandson…

This is not fair at all. Muhammad Irfan is the best singer, and he can face any challenge. Irfan & Abhilasha should be back. At that day, Alka jee was very happy for Harshit (that he has reached to final 4), but what about Irfan….she was not shocked at all (Although Irfan was the guy of Prithvi team–her own team). it is really very disappointing moment, that Irfan is out. I always thought that people who criticize TOSHI’s singing is becoz of the competition Toshi is giving with their favorites…but after the confirmed news of his elemination those idiots r still criticizing him…some of them r saying that he was not deserving, he is a limited singer, he can only sing kawali and folk or sufi…people who r saying so plz listen to me…I am giving u an open challenge…within next 5 years u wil find toshi singing at least a sad song in every Hit film in indian film industry.
I’ve been listening to SRGMPA since my childhood…heard many singers singing in such contests…few of them become legend now a days…but none of them had the DARD in their voice at the age of 20 as Toshi has…yes the DARD remember the word…this is going to make TOSHI a legend.
I saw some freak saying Toshi can never be is the main stream…Avijeet from Indian Idol had a plain voice like Avaas and Harshit…where is he in the main stream…but i challenge u AMANAT from SRGMPA will be in the main stream…is his voice a plain voice…I cahallenge u people wont accept the voice of Harshit…becoz its just a copy…if it was exeptable then KUMAR SANU should have been singing all the songs now a days.
Again no TOP HERO of indian industry wont like Avaas to sing for them…he may be a good singer but his voice quality wont suit a dashing hero…his voice quality may suit DILIP KUMAR 30 years back.

These are not a whining remarks on Toshi’s elimination.
Here they go:
1.Star Plus (SP) wants to make money…It is just not their concern who really wins the show as long as they make huge bucks. Even if you disagree with this, do read on.
2. If they want to make a particular contestant win the VOI, they can still do that…but they would definitely need support of a contestant who is a mass puller.After all, money made = K*number of sms they receive
3. It also does not matter to SP what the reason of these sms are, ethical or unethical.
4. They have seen what happened to the show when Toshi was sent out (whatever may be the reason)
5. I dont think they are fool enough not to anticipate that public interest is going to take a quantum dip if the most popular candidate is out.
6. If you compile all these facts together, they all point to that they should not meddle with the crowd puller of their show. This means, leaving the top slot, they can fiddle around and try to satisfy ppl with political/power or whatever connections. But this is applicable only until the final.
7. They can meddle with the top candidate only in the final for a very simple reason that they would have made all the money they could have by then.
8. Infact business sense should(?) dictate them to keep Toshi in the show even if they have to bend some rules…the point is they only bother about their interest and nothing else.
Barring all the sentiments, it just does not fit in the logic that Toshi is sent out.
The only way it can happen is if there is any important factor that has got missed out…I am trying hard to figure out what can that be? After all, math is the most basic and reliable tool to understand anything that happens in this world and beyond!

Couldn’t agree with you more regarding Toshi becoming a legend! One hundred percent behind you on this one mate.
Toshi is an “extra-ordinary singer” - he has the TADAP and DARD in his voice. He is a “singers singer” -I am sure singers like Shaan, Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan would go to listen to him any day than to go and listen to Harshit and Abhas!
With all sincerety and due respect to singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Udit Narayan and even Kishore Kumar (many consider him to be a great - I am sorry I dont - he had no ability for harkatein - he was a seedha seedha singer)- they are a dime a dozen singers!
Singers like Toshi are God’s Gift to music.
Whether Toshi actually becomes a legend in wordly terms - only time will tell.
But in my eyes he is already a better singer than any of the current “regular established bollywood singers”.
I challenge each and everyone of them to deliberatly miss a beat and come back in meter like Toshi does. If even one of them did it ten times out of ten in a complex song like Teri Deewani- I am willing to lose anything!
Admitting that I am a highly opinionated person, I would even go so far as saying that Toshi is already better than any “film singer” of any time!
I would only pay money to go and listen to one of them - Manna Dey!
I find Toshi even more exciting than even Manna Dey!
I have never heard anyone push their singing to the limit like Toshi does….
May be a fellow called Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan….. but Toshi has a more melodious voice and he does not screech like the Big Man did!
Listening to good singers like Lata Mangeshkar is a good experience.
Listening to someone like Toshi (and Pandit Kumar Gandharva and Abida Parveen I must admit) is an “out of the world” experience!

Toshi lovers have elevated him to the status of a musical God. So much so that during Sunidhi Chauhan episode Sunidhi advised him to change his song because he could not sing in a low note when all the participants auditioned before her.

Another slightly technical point…
The appeal of singers like Kailash Kher, Abida Parveen and Toshi (the so called sufi singers) is that they are equally appealing without a microhone - khuli awaaz ka jaadu. It somehow subconsciously takes us back to the old darbaars (microphoneless days).
The so-called modern singers need a microphone!

Toshi is a good singer, I admit……but I also am mature enough to not take it personally when people like other contestants. I like Abhaas the most….but I also say that Wild Card was unfair and the ones who were originally there should become VoI!
It is only because you all do not know how to respect people who like other contestants more..made everyone dislike Toshi too..and hence he got eliminated!

Zaki, AS and Rossi… Thanks for the wonderful comments about Toshi… they really made me feel good after getting the heart-breaking news of Toshi being out. Yes, the ‘Dard’ in his voice is lacking in all of the other contestants of VOI. One can sing, but to combine ‘PAIN’ and ‘PASSION’ while rendering a very different rendition of the original is not an easy task. And this is what Toshi does with such ease. From his Piya Re to Saiyaan… he has never ever copied the original, rather he has brought in some of his own originality in what ever way possible in each one of them - and that’s what I love the most about him - the true facets of a gifted and great singer.

No matter what happens, be be it Harshit or Ishmeet or Abhaas becomes the VOI, their voices will soon be lost into oblivion as they can never leave a mark on the mind of any one as Toshi has and does - those who hate him completely will never be able to get him out of their head and those who love him with all their hearts will remain true to him for ever… THAT’S THE POWER OF TOSHI’S PRESENCE and therefore, in everyway, HE IS THE BIGGEST WINNER OF ALL. At the end of the day, all singers wish to remain in the hearts and minds of the people as long as they sing and still after that and some singers take years to achieve it. But as a newcomer itself, Toshi has achieved this stance … He has made Alka Yagnik cry after performance, his fans smile and cry at every step, Abhijitji feel proud and elated, the greatest of legends say how gifted he is .. he has already made a place in the hearts of all who watched him perform with every bit of passion. How many others have done so before?

Toshi is the best of the best… To me, his is one of the greatest voices I’ve heard ever. For those who say he cannot sing low notes well, go ahead and listen to Lagan Lagi - he intentionally sung it in a low scale to prove his range to the world. Everyone knew he is unbeatable at the high notes and with this song he proved that he is unbeatable at every note.

Thanks for the compliments dear, I wrote what my heart felt about this show. Like you, I also had respect for Shan for his neutral and encouraging behaviour towards all the participants. May be he is got influenced by the environment created by Aadesh & Pundit Bros which in anyways is sad. I wish he gets back to his original groove.
I do appreciate Abhijeet for having guts to publically appologise to Ishmeet and just look at the dignity of Ishmeet guy! he said to Abhijeet not to do this otherwise he will feel very bad, so sweet of him like his voice.
God bless Ishmeet, his success will be a victory of dignity and fairness (on top of his sweet voice) over unfair play and dirty politics.
So you guys really think Toshi is the biggest and best singer EVER???? Beter than any Bollywood singer in todays date…or in the past? I am really curious coz I dont see anything sooo extraordinary in him. We havent even heard him as much as we have Sonu Nigam…or other singers from past for that matter. So how can you say just on the basis of few good renditions that he is the greatest singer ever???? I really am curisous to know what gives him such a large fan following? And I also wonder how could he get eliminated if he really does have so many people’s support! His being voted off the show just means that Abhaas and Ishmeet and Harshit has more fans than him..coz they are still in the show. You have to agree that no matter what people say..its not easy to trick and decieve the whole lot of people who are voting by pre-deciding who wd win! Any one can question and sue them if they arent fair! I am sure they have some very strict policies. So I dont believe it when people say its all pre-decided. Its not as easy as it sounds. Hey Guys, I sincerely feel that it was Toshi who got the highest votes this week too. But you know with all these rigging and changing of votes go on in these kinds of talent hunts? I cannot agree that despite being at his worse on the last episode and getting negative comments from the judges and so much of drama going about ousting him, Harshit could have won the highest votes.
The voting system is not at all transperant and no one gets to know as to what happens behind the scenes in the room where counting takes place. How much time does it take to shuffle tha names between the highest vote gainers and the lowest? Who can give a prove of what is actually happening?
I completely believe that Toshi has been thrown out BECAUSE HE IS A MUSLIM. There cannot be any other reason. It is shame to say that we live in a secular state called India where all kinds of hypocrisies take place behind the facade of ‘SECULARISM’. The way the judges support the three ‘LEFTOVER’ or should I say ‘RESIDUAL’ contestants, despite Toshi giving the best of performances for the days concerned - clearly points towards that. Irfaan too got voted out for that reason alone!!I was shocked when Abhaas said on the last episode that if he does not become the VOI then it would be Ishmeet… what the hell???? He is a very learned singer himself, and despite that if he says so about a low ranged and monotonous and un-trained singer like Ishmeet, then I guess he already knows about the manupulations taking place and that’s why he his getting the public ready to recieve the shock of their lives.
I have also heard a buzz about Abhijeet being out of India for the next six weeks… only the next episodes will confirm that. But what if he actually does not turn up? Will it be a protest agaist Toshi’s eliminaiton or the wrongs that are going on in the program???

All the current judges are completely neutral .. let us just accept that premise.
However the fact that they are all Hindu.. gives people an opportunity to point fingers.

Actually when a singer has the ability to sing the original song 100% correctly (like Harshit ), people say he is copying. But when a singer cannot sing the original song perfectly and deviates from the notes and harkats (Like Toshi), people are saying he is original. Strange ….ha ha …!

Besides, all the other ‘Hindu’ contestants did not have in them what Irfaan and especailly Toshi has - a great fan following and of course …. a direct way of earning hell lot money forthe show and channel. Yes, Toshi is original Sanjaya…. in that he brings his originality… not ‘original’ as you say in copying someone. No one needs another Sonu Nigam or Shaan or Kumar Sanu or Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan…. as they are already established singers and their places can never be replaced. We are looking for new voices who know how to diviate from coying any one but at the same time keeping the feel of the original intact - this is the trend in Bollywood Today as is being proved by the likes of Kailash Kher, KK, Zubeen Garg, Atif Aslam, Sukhwinder Singh and others. That’s what Toshi does.. by bringing in Indian classical into Sufis and latest numbers and blending amazing harkats in the most unexpected of areas. You need real knowledge of music and beats and guts to do that on stage.. before hundreds of audiences.

I have the impression that you love “Sufiana music” the way you admire Toshi’s singing. Well, I too like this genre which really touches one’s heart and I agree Toshi is very good in this style. Both Toshi and his younger brother Sharib (participated in SRGMP 2005) are well trained singers and were admired by Mahagurus who came to the show as guest jusges. If it were only the mahagurus to judge the singing, both of them would have made to the finals. I recall one instance in SRGM 2005 when the tie was between Sharib & Irfan, the judges declared Sharib winner over Irfan. Its bad luck to both brothers that they lost in the public voting round.
I hope u also watched SRGMP challenge 2007 but its surprising that u didn’t mention a singer “Mussarat Abbas” from Pakistan who rocked the show with his explosive sufiana singing. Although he could only reach at top 6 but he left an ever lasting impression to all.
If you missed that show then I would sincerely suggest you to view just the performances of Mussarat Abbas(Youtube will be a better place) and I m sure you will be thrilled, amazed, choked…whatever by the magical voice of that guy. Atleast watch the following;

I have no logical answer to why Toshi is eliminated.
I have a logical and musical explanation for why he is better than any bollywood singer of anytime.
Now I am only restricting myself to singing ability, not the “abhinay ang” or ability to suit any actor. Like for instance.. Shaan’s voice suits Saif Khan to the T. Udit Narayan’s voice suited Aamir Khan to the T. Kishore Kumar’s voice suited Amitabh Bacchan more than his own voice!
I am not talking of that… I am talking pure singing ability.
Let us first take the understanding of taalkaari (beats in Anglo speak). In many of his songs Toshi has deliberatly missed a beat (or a complete cycle) and adjusted to come back and hit the “sum” (the first beat in the cycle.
Alka Yagnick, Adesh Srivastav acknowldge this when it happens, Parveen Sultana applauded it when he did it in the wild card round. So did Jagjit Singh when Toshi sang Teri Deewani.
However none of the judges took the trouble of explaining this to the audiences. Here I am disappointd with Abhijeet.
There are many singers who struggle to sing with the beat in sync. Toshi has such mastery over beats that he misses a beat deliberately! He literally plays with the TAAL. It takes years and years of HARDCORE TRAINING to do this.
I have not heard any Bollywood singer do this. Even Ustads and Pandits struggle with this. This is an ultimate tribute to understanding of Taal!
And Toshi is a past master at it.
Coming to taans and alaaps and harkatein.
Listen to Silli Silli aundhi yeh hawa. And the harkat Toshi has taken with Hawaaa… aaa… aaa. This takes tremendous control and again years and years of training. He has done this better than Hans Raj Hans the original singer. Dont take my word for it.. listen to both versions.. they are on this site!
Now listen to Allahu.. Toshi’s version on this site.. The alaap.. the first musical notes he utters (aaaaaa….aaaa)… ask for a Hindustani music teacher’s opinion on this.. can u get such a clean, clear, precise alaap. Yes, but not from any Bollywood singer!
Sargam.. again the only one in my humble opinion of the “filmi singers” who could do this was Manna Dey. Dont get me wrong please, I have almost all of Manna Deys recordings including his private mehfil cassettes, I am a huge fan of Manna Dey. But in Sargam’s he does not even come close to Toshi.
Pain and passion are relative and subjective, so I wont go there.
But none of the “regular bollywood” singers can push their voice to the limit as Toshi does!
For these reasons Toshi is beter than the run of the mill bollywood singers.
And Abhijeet said it different words…
Toshi I cant judge you.. I am not equipped to judge you.. you are made for a far far bigger platform than SVOI.

Lol DB….I do understand that you admire Toshi as a singer alot. But you gotta understand that when its upto people to decide through votes….lots of factors operate behind the final results! This the only explanation I can give ya! Caste, Place you come from…..do people watch enough TV and would they spend money in sending SMS’s……etc etc…there are so many factors responsible. I was really shocked and hurt at the news of Toshi’s elimination which prompted me to say all of those things. Yes, religion may not be the reason at all and other factors are bound to be there and we are no one to decide or debate on that. From day one after his audition performance I fell in love with Toshi’s singing style and voice and presence madly. and its hard to see the person you supported so dedicatedly leave after giving us so much hope.I can only cry in silence and still feel so helpless.
You might have your fav too and so carry on watching and enjoying VOI. The show is over for me.

I am so sorry! Toshi was my secong fav. My first fav is Abhaas. Actually who I really like depends on their performance of the day! So my fav keeps changing. But I can understand you feel bad that Toshi got eliminated. I was shocked too! I serisouly thought that he would make it to the finals at least! But life is unpredictable!
But dont you worry..all these contestants have gotten enough public support and exposure for almost all of them to come out with their individual Albums. And trust God….like you yourself said…Talent kisi Votes ka mohtaaj nahi hota! He will get a bigger break than VoI if he really is that talented! Hai na!

Its very happy to hear that Toshi is out. It was so stupid to bring him, priyani & Abhas to bring back through wildcard.
Its proved that - Real Talent is talent and this type of entries will spoil the complete atmosphere. I bet and know that People has lost intrest in VOI after Wildcards and Vetos.
So, there is other Guy who should be eliminated who sings songs in woman voices sometimes thinking that we are fools.
Finally, Daadimaaaaaaaaaaas stupid idiot and rouge should be out in finals .. If he wins it proves that its not talent , its sympathy and politics of Judges (Monkeys sitting there) with one Mule (Alka)…

man I am kind of worreid about some people here,I am talking about toshi’s fans in particular, with all do respect to all of you and reading through your excellent, well decribed comments, However, I must say that some of you are suffering from some sort of psychological problems like delusions. I noticed that Toshi is being reffered to a legend, better then all top singers of india….even I think he is being referd to as diety … come on people, I realy think you are doing harm to his immage then doing any good. There is no question that Toshi is a good singer and if he keeps working hard , he will have very bright future, having said this, please quit this dilusional thoughts about him being god or when he sings god takes break or he is out because of his religious affiliation…etc. this is just pathetic. for him.Now I feel really elated that Harold
and so many others have joined in albeit lately.
I have been for Abhaas from the very early stages

well dudes, a good news with the bad news of TOSHI’s elimination is that TOSHI is singing in an ALBUM of the great USTAD NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN…all the composition r done by NUSRAT himself but due to hs death the albub was incomplete…now the organizers of that ALBUM found TOSHI worth of finishing this album.
Now what else a young singer of age 20 expect more than that..singin on compositions of N F A K is just a honor for TOSHI..and this information was confirmed by ADESH and TOSHI himself…earlier on this site i’ve posted an interview of TOSHI by a channel..u can find it and u will find that its true.
Again according to ADESH, TOSHI’s album is going to come first among the contestants even before the winner and may be within 2 months.
I have some other informations about other offers for TOSHI…when i’m 100% confirmed u will be informed.
All the CRITICS of TOSHI, those who still using rough words to criticize him, even after his elemination…the answer to ur Hypocritical arguments are coming.

Isn’t that convenient? Saying to people that they should not support a candidate of their choice because it is a waste of time. That is a defeatest attitude.
Toshi’s public image was largely hurt because of his fans - whether anyone has the guts to accept it or not.
It is a very good idea to support a candidate of choice. Logic dictates it. Even if there is something fishy going on with the show, public pressure can have an effect.
Everyone should continue to support the candidate of their choice - whoever that may be.
Vinod, I did not only start supporting Abhaas lately. He was always someone I thought could win, and he was always #1 for me.
I will not let people discourage me from openly supporting him. At the same time, all of the remaining contestants are so awesome, that whoever wins would get praises from me.

@ Vinod….yes I have been supporting Abhaas right from the start coz I seriosuly feel the guy has some extra ordinary talent. I dont know how muuch can we all do by voting for Abhaas and supporting him from here..but I do know that we can make a difference if we vote for him. Lots of times we lose our favourite contestants just because we feel that everyone is voting for them and us not voting wont make any difference! Hope all you guys do vote for him.
DB, well, may be we are just handful and cant do much..but trust me..we will not get “heart broken” and we would not start blaming the show and judges and everyone else in the whole wide world if Abhaas gets eliminated. Its just the way of life. I believe all Bemisaal 12 were extremely good..thats why they got selected in the first place. But only one person can have the VoI title.
And for the people who think that show is fixed etc…..I very strongly disagree. They cannot do that. Noone is as big as Star Plus or any of the judges who come thr that they would want to promote any one of the singers. Star Plus is answerable to people who vote for the sow and the government. They would not risk the reputation of the most watched channel in India just for one Contestant.

Teach a lesson to biased judges and show administrators by voting to either ishmeet or abhaas. But you need to choose one of these two to make a genuine harm to harshit. My suggestion is to go for ishmeet because he can be a greater threat to harshit due to punjab factor. ALL IRFAN TOSHI FANS THINK SERIOUSLY !

I really feel very bad to watch last episode that Toshi has been eliminated i think Toshi is the best contestant he derserved the title of VOI. I think in VOI the most deserving contestants are TOSHI, Abhilasha and Irfan but the role of judges except Abhijeet play a negative role. Lalit and Ahdesh always support Hershit i don’t know why? Hershit always gain people attention to say MEREEE DADI MAAA KA SAPNA HAI….. what the hell he is doing? He is making us fool. Infact in VOI everybody wants new voice but hershit sings like Kumar Sanu i think no one of VOI belongs to a very rich family all are from middle class and some are from lower middle class i think shaan and Jatin are suporting ABBASS and abbass attitude showing that he is very over confident and his voice is just like childish voice and no hero want abbaass that abbass sing as a play back singer for him. Do u remeber in Wild card entry the most senior judges chose 4 contestants (Ashpreet, Toshi, Prantik and Priyani) But Jatin used his vEETO i think at that time when these senior judges chose these contestant b/c of their ability and talent if ABBASS voice attract them definitely they will choose him but at that time he didn’t inspire judges b/c of his childish voice. I don’t understand why Jatin used Veeto b/c he likes ABBASS and i felt there was no need of VEETO at that time all contestants are equal. In my view Abhilasha , Irfan and Toshi’s voice are the best voices of VOI and now I see there is no healthy compitition in VOI without these three. I also observed that Adhesh gave a staid and stunned attitude when Abhilasha and Irfan performed he is very extremist he only takes a side of his team i think he should be nuetral as Abhijeet and i am vey sad when i saw the Irfan elimination episode at that time of elimination Alka was too happy for Harshit and shaan also. Alka role is very crucial for the very first episode she always takes side for AGNI and point out the mistakes of PRITHVI this is not fair i think Agni’s mentor never say anything infront of anyone but Alka always do this thing b/c judges argument gives impact on janta’s voting. Overall I am not happy and i am very dissappointed to see VOI results and I feel there is something missing and wrong going in this program. And now i want to see Ishmeet as a VOI Winner. He is simple and his voice is sweet and always touches our heart. Plz Lalit and Adhesh stop saying stupid things for simple Ishmeet.
