Irfan sings Rind Posh Maal

Date: August 27, 2007  Category: 25th Aug, Irfan

Irfan was next and he sung ‘Rind Posh Maal’ from ‘Mission Kashmir’. Why he would bring Jimmy Shergil on stage is beyond me. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I really wish everyone would pay attention to their singing instead of trying these gimmicks, they aren’t fooling anyone.

But yes, I completely agree with Irfan, when he told Shaan that he doesn’t like it when Shaan says that he is from South India. My detailed thoughts on this topic will come in another post.

Irfan sang this song beautifully. I agree that bringing guests over stage has always bugged me as I think that contestants should be focusing on their singing more than anything else. I am a huge Irfan fan but the song had a few mistakes here and there. I think the only person who did justice to this song in a live performance besides Shankar Mahadaven is Karunya from II2 finale. He sang it beautifully and even a maestro like Sonu Nigam acknowledged that only few singers in India could ever sing like that live. The ending of the song is based on Shankar’s “Breathless” composition where without taking a breath, he kept singing for over 2 minutes.. Rind Posh Maal’s ending was like that as well.. Irfan almost got it but for some reason the end part either gets cut due to the mike distance or possibly for a gasp of air taken by him. Even then, I feel that he did an amazing job at it. So kudos to him for choosing this song and for saying that he is an indian first and then anything else.

I think Karunya was in league of his own. And thanks for reminding me about his performance of the same song. I will try to find it and update the post.
