Harshit sings Phirta Rahoon

Date: November 3, 2007  Category: 2nd November, Harshit

It’s Harshit’s turn and he sang ‘Phirta Rahoon’ from the movie ‘Killer’.

Now this is interesting. Earlier same song was sung by Toshi. So now we can do ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison between Toshi and Harshit. I have included both the performances below. Listen to them. Who sang it better?

In my humble opinion, I don’t know who sang it better. They both sounded good and different from each other. Though I prefer Harshit’s rendition because of his voice. What’s your choice?

And Abhijeet, it does not make sense for you to say that Harshit has one of the best voice when in previous episode you complained that Harshit doesn’t have his own unique voice. And yes, standing up and shouting makes you look stupid. [Look at Alka, she never gets up from her seat and she comes out as more intelligent than all 4 of you.]

Toshi’s version:

Its very unfair that toshi is out.He can sing sad songs so well and songs with masti as well.He is versatile singer.I will stop watching VOI as toshi is not in the show.

Yes, Harshit sang this song way better than Toshi did.

Harshit will be singing ‘Darde Disco’ today (based on the promos). We will get another chance to make an ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison with Toshi’s rendition of the same.

I am sure Harshit will clearly beat Toshi’s version.

I liked Toshi’s version much better, though… I felt the energy was better there, and the song touched my heart…I’m afraid i cant say the same for Harshit’s performance…
Of course, Toshi’s Dard-e-Disco was very flat, whereas i liked Harshit’s version in the ad…

Harshit was mind blowing. There is no doubt that he was way better than Toshi.
Harshit definitely has the best voice among all the contestants.

Harshit’s version is far superior. He has a good throw. Good voice and never falters. Toshi’s version was a bit erratic. Harshit definitely has an edge over all the other singers because of his beautiful masculine voice. By the way i hate his comparison to Kumar Sanu. I think he far better than KS.

As a singer it is important to first be technically correct. Feelings etc come with more experience and insight.

  7. Mohsin on November 3rd, 2007 1:10 pm

Well there is no comparison between Harshit & Toshi..Toshi has a unique voice while Harshit has a very powerful voice so don’t compare both of them with each other..Toshi is far far better than Harshit because he is the Voice of World…Harshit sang this song well i like it..

  8. Masoud Safi on November 3rd, 2007 3:08 pm

WAh,,Wah,and Wah. excellent , superb. although Toshi sung this song fairly well too, but Harshit’s is the superb one so , from my openion Harshit sung it better. Excellent job harshit

Awaaz mein dum hai bande ke…and it sounded good..very very good..full marks for this one..sundar gayaki and i liked his performance for the first time…

but when toshi sings phirta rahoo dar badar..the emotion is just too strong..irfan and amanat from srgmp were the only other participants who really touched my heart..

  11. nyla on November 3rd, 2007 4:53 pm

Harshit sang it really well! luved it.. and Toshiz version was as usual based on unwanted allaps, sargams, taan etc
    HARSHIT U ROCK MAN!

As 4 Abhijeet and his bull shit comments it hardly makes any difference to Harshit bcoz when ppl like MAhesh, Mukesh & Pooja Bhaat hv recognized him who the hell is Abhijeet. Everyone knows his silly-billy judgement. One day he says Ishmeet is the “original” VOI n the next episode he writes him off i mean wt is this???

  13. MOHSIN, NEW YORK CITY, USA on November 3rd, 2007 10:45 pm

When Toshi sang the song it was very soulful and emotional whereas Harshit inspite of his powerful voice came out blah.
Oh and AJ, Harshit does try to imitate Kumar Sanu and he does a good job doing it, so if ur smart u’d figure out who is better the imitator or the imitated.

Wow, harshit is born playback singer. Look at his performance, he’s far superior that Toshi in singing. To me, Harshit sang this song far better than Toshi did. I find couple of glitches while listening to Toshi, but Harshit?? he’s flawless guys.. he deserves VOICE of India. He is just flawless..

  15. Masoud Safi on November 4th, 2007 2:53 am

Harshit has sung this song way better .

  16. Hina on November 4th, 2007 2:54 am

I dont know why people like HARSHIT’S version soo much there is nothing so different in his song Toshi has sung this song far better than Harshit and I want to know why Harshit is choosing the same songs that Toshi sangbefore two or three episodes he has sung ek haseena thi….then phirta rahun dar badar…then dard-e-disco wht is this???? I think he just want to compare his performance with Toshi and let every one do this well JO HUA SO HUA I m not going to watch this show any more but I will watch it on Grand Finale and ISHMEET will be the VOI coz Abhaas is going to be eliminated this week and harshit is voice of cinema so no need to be here for Harshit and the last is Ishmeet although he has a sweet voice but the deserving ones have left the show so who ever wants to be a VOI he shold be given the crown
thanks well Zaki plz comment here Im waiting for ur comment the only true admire of Toshi’s singing plz
    THANKS

Mohsin, probably you are right. i havent heard Kumar Sanu so much to figure out the imitation business. I dont like KS as he is nasal. Harshit on the other hand is a ‘pakka’ singer - there are hardly any technical flaws in his singing. If he is copying then i must say he does a bloody good copy.

  18. AJ on November 4th, 2007 4:46 am

by they way Toshi is not able to hit the right note when he sings ‘tanhaiyaan’ and ‘hey hey hey’ amongst other places. Hear Harshit at these places - this is what i mean by spot on.

  19. DB on November 4th, 2007 5:06 am

Harshit …. well what can we say about the guy? no matter what kind of song you give him he will turn it into a sad one… Toshi’s version was waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harshit’s. Harshit never had any feel, and as usually looked and sounded so wooden and stiff.

6 out of 10 from me.

    Harshit:::

    “”IS A VOICE OF INDIA

    INSHALLHA “”

  21. Rajesh Kumar on November 4th, 2007 1:18 pm

I think Harshit has a better voice quality and Toshi has a better voice techniques. They are both winner in their own right!!

At least we will have a chance to hear fresh voices.

  22. SK on November 4th, 2007 4:29 pm

I think Toshi sang both songs better, I loved the changes of pitch he did in his voice while singing phirta rahoon.Harshit although having the advantage that already Toshi sang both songs before him but still Harshit did not manage to sing both songs that well in contrast of Toshi especially Dard-e-Disco.

I think he Harshit did a good job with Phirta Rahoon but it was missing he combination of high notes and low notes , while Toshi did it beaut

  23. SK on November 4th, 2007 4:29 pm

    Beautifully*

  24. Sara Jai on November 4th, 2007 4:42 pm

hah! I liked the “bloody good copy” term :D I have heard both Kumar Sanu and Kishore a lot. The ‘open throw’ of his voice is similar to them but still I dont think Harshit copies any of them

Anyway I think Harshit sang Dard-e-Disco way better than Toshi! Toshi’s voice was not going his way that particular day.

  25. SHAH on November 5th, 2007 7:52 am

Yes I think Toshi’s voice was not good as remarked by Mr.Jatin as well that his voice is not working correctly today.
While on Harshit’s turn, his voice was in his full performance & working at 100%. So, there must be no comparison of Dard-e-Disco song.
However, we can compare Phirta rahoon because, the two songs sung by both singers at their peak time. However, I have also read on some websites that on elimination week among Toshi & Abhaas, there was news already out before time finished that Abhaas is getting too low scores than Toshi & people immediately get to vote Abhaas which took him out by only 5153 votes.

  26. Uzma on November 5th, 2007 2:43 pm

I agree with Mohsin. Harshit relies on his voice’s “bulandi”- and it seems to be all he has going for him. His lisp is so noticable…how is that not a concern!?! And he ends up sounding dull and flat when he holds his notes. Toshi’s voice is not heavy and flat- which is why I prefer him to the run-of -the-mill “gulli singers” that are everywhere in India. Not only that, he adds emotional depth and passion to his performances;and he displays a true understanding of music.
