Sorry folks, I could not upload the episode earlier. I am not keeping well and hence the delay. Anyway, we had, hm… an average qawali special. You can find all 20th October videos here.
I felt that Abhaas gave the best performance today. Absolutely outstanding. He was the winner for me today.
And this might go against popular opinion but I did not enjoy Toshi’s Allah Hoo that much. I don’t know why. It just didn’t work for me. Irfan’s effort to render ‘Piya Haji Ali’ was very sincere but again.. I felt that it could have been better. Harshit and Ishmit are in bottom 2 as far as this episode is concerned.

DO YOU REALISE THAT YOUR VOTING SYSTEM IS GOING AWRY….one can actually vote any no. of times from a given IP and that is misguiding those who visit the site regularly…..I ‘ve commented on this earlier but you have turned a deaf ear towards it.
Given the perfectionist you are, as evident from your efforts,this should be paid attention to at the EARLIEST……
As for the performances I think IRFAN’s was the best yesterday…He has that unique little tinge in his voice that gives him an edge over the others…..
This episode should have been TOSHI’s bread and butter but I think his voice goes very rough sometimes and becomes a bit rusty here and there but nonetheless he is one of the best in the business here….
Abhas is good but not so good as Jatin always tried to paint him to be..he is MONOTONOUS….
I never liked Harshit for he is not unique,original versatile enough(actually I am pissed off with his DADI ma thing and AADESH & LALIT)……
I pity Ishmeet because he cannot do much about his limitations, but i respect him for his sincerity
Great Show, Abhass Toshi and Irfan were fantastic; Ishmit and Harshit with good too. I know that Ishmit’s performance wasnt as good as the top three but i dont think that he deserved to get a 6, an 8 or a 7 maybe but not a 6.

J, You are doing a fantastic job. No question about that. The last show was good in my opinion.
Toshi,s voice seems to be getting raspier, I don’t know why, and this last performance worries me.
As expected, Abhaas knocked the competition away this time. I agree with you on that.
Let’s deal with a serious issue. The fraud voting - repeat voting system. this is encouraged by Rossi and Sonia, and they all boast about it on Toshi’s section. My info is that newspapers in India have picked up on it and is proving that it is hurting Toshi’s image.
The Vancouver Sun and another paper in NY talked about it. To bring some sobriety back to the show they have to get real judges on the last few shows, and let them make the decisions. Discard the voting system - since it is easy to prove that it is prone to fraud (admittedly by Toshi’s fans_.)
Did you ever notice that the regular judges Stop acting like idiots when they have reputable guests on the show - like last night. That is the way they should always conduct themselves, and those guests are the type of knowledgeable judges that should make the decisions.
Pankaj Udhas, Ustad Amjad Ali Khanji, Sanjay Bhansali, and the fabulous Rani Mukherjee etc. should be judges. The regular fake judges respect them, and act like adults when such people are around.

The voting system isnt yet ileagal by the show or by the site…all the reality shows having this kind of voting….Ismeet the weakest singer is still in this show because of this kinda voting…then why only TOSHI’s image is a question?…we dont want TOSHI to get out.
20 votes per user is accepted by the show…and if u have 5 members in ur family then 100 votes is not a big deal from 1 IP…if this voting is stopped by the site and the show…ive no prob….but as long as its open i dont want TOSHI to get out becoz of ISHMEET lovers.

Haresh, I agree with you..the judges behave like adults when we have respectable guests. I do believe that they should also respect the public that watches them every week and behave more maturely.

Rossi; i agree with you…all fans are open to vote multiple times for their favorite contestant, not only toshi. It is cheating, but its available to all fans so that makes it fair ground. You’re saying that im saying bad words that i learned from my parents?…what are you a little boy? where in my posts have you seen “bad words” ? You and Rushdi think this blog is about the competition?..yes i agree but when fans like you campaign for cheating then i feel that a response to a cheater is warranted. In my opinion only two performances on the Qawwali episode were ‘traditional qawwalis’ the others were ‘filmi qawalis’.
The traditional ones were Allahu and Piya Haji Ali (even though it is from a film).
I feel Toshi’s voice is still not at it’s best. I hope he recovers soon and is able to perform at his best.
However for the ‘qawwali feel’ occassional breaking of the voice is normal and I thought he was miles ahead of the others in the qawwali rendition of Allahu.
This guy is smart and a true artiste.. I loved how he started with ” Hawaa tez thi phir bhi lau bujh nahi payi,Khuda bhi apne hone ke kya kya saboot deta hai.”
The reference could have been to his own elimination and re-entry!
J, my friend I am sorry but I found Abhas’ performance poor on many counts. Talaffuz (pronounciation) is an important element of Urdu qawwali and ghazal and everyone except Irfan and Toshi are very poor with this including the judges .. Pandit brothers and Aadesh Srivastav.
Ageed that Irfan and Toshi being Muslim and from Urdu background can pronounce Urdu words easily, but if the other contestants have serious aspirations they must address this aspect.
I am absolutely amazed that none of the judges have highlighted this aspect of singing so far.. in any of the episodes so far.. and we are in the top 5!

Please look at the video again to check that abhaas was not able to do justice with qawaali till he reached the last para. He only sung the last para effectively for rest of the song hew was just struggling. I found Irfan much soothing. Harshit should be out this time as he is a copy cat.Let the orignal voice contestants take over.

Though Toshi is miles ahead of others, I don’t think this was his best performance either.
J: I think you should hear Toshi, Irfan and Abhas’s performance once again…and yes, close your eyes and hear them thru a headphone.

I was a bit disappointed by Ustad Amjad Ali. I had been excitedly waiting for this episode to hear Amjad ali’s analysis (i dotn think much of PU anyways). But he was just happy and sweet and smiley throughout the episode. hardly useful.
Abhaas gave the best performance (went off only once). Irfaan was great, very blissful.
Toshi needs to work a lot on his voice and clarity of notes. Honestly pronouciation counts only after sur and bhava. Theres no point having a brilliant pronounciation if you cant render clear notes. Might as well read it out.

I am not a singer like you but music does fascinate me a lot. And hence, I request a little favor from you in terms of your comments on the following:
You have mentioned in some of your comments that Toshi’s voice breaks sometimes, I tried hard but could not figure out where. Could you help me with this…may be you can tell me a particular song and the location where you feel it breaks. I have heard him using headphones!!
One more thing, I have heard from many ppl including his mentor Aadesh, “Hrishit’s ke sur nahin hilte”. Now what do they really mean by this? I mean if a song sounds melodious and the words come clearly, isn’t that enough to make a song great! I don’t find Harshit’s voice any melodious. Nevertheless, he has given some good performances!

In my humble opinion there are only two candidates capable of being considered for SVOI.
The only reasons I watch SVOI every week are Toshi and Irfan.
Of the official votes I am allowed I distribute them betwen Toshi (no apologies, but he is my first choice) and Irfan (second choice).
It would be great to see a final between Toshi and Irfan. I hope with all my heart that we get to see them in action in the final 2 and I don’t really mind who wins..
because to beat Toshi, Irfan will have to perform beyong imagination.. and what a mouthwatering prospect that is!

Toshi is a good singer but overhyped.
Ishmeet - It is really a wonder how he gets away everytime. May be his luck. However I think he should be safe since the judges always are against him. And he may become Voice of India and beat Toshi too, if the judges do not stop treating him badly.

Ishmit was saved because judges gave him a seven and everytime they tell him bhala bura. There are people who suports Ishmeet since they do not understand music. They vote because it is Ishmeet.

as far as I concern the recording of friday’s episode was today and there the elimination happend…I was confirmed by other forums…lets see what happens.

Ishmeet has a sweet voice and Jusctice is being done to Ishmeet from the divine force. See, how badly he has been treated by all the so called judges, even his own mentors are against him and it was really disgusting what Abhijeeta mouthfouled about him couple of weeks back.
Now all judges including the so called neutral Jatin are trying to eliminate Ishmeet by passing unnecessary negative comments against him. To me he did a good job in the qawali, a defintely better score than 6 & 7 he deserved but they just got the opportunity to humiliate him.
But u don’t worry Ishmeet, God is with u and these biased judjes will keep getting a SLAP on their faces week after week. I wish Ishmeet and Toshi reach in the final as both are better singers than the remaining ones.

Why? He is a “taiyar” singer and interpretes the song and presents it in his style. The mark of a real artiste.
Sorry the others are just imitating.
Maybe not Irfan.. but he lacks the depth and maturity of musical understanding that Toshi has.
But Toshi’s voice is not currently at it’s best since the wild card round.
Hope he recovers soon… He is the only deserving winner of SVOI.

Others like Abhas,Abhilasha may be blessed with better voices by Saraswati…
But looking at Toshi you realise.. here is a common man like you and me.. not blessed with a great voice… but through his sheer tapasya he has forced Saraswati to grant him his due.

Granted Toshi’s voice is not at its best at the moment,but anyone who has learnt any form of music for atleast one year will know that none of the singers that have been on SVOI including the audition rounds, are not even in the same league!

How far it is true that IRFAN will be eliminated on 26th October?. But VOI always Says no one knows till end.
I would like to remind that Alka held one point back for Toshi and said his peformance deserved 10. However she said that Abhas’s performance deserved much more than 10. I think that sums it up. In a competition one should be voted only for the singing merit, and nothing else.
It is good to see that everyone has different likes and dislikes. Thats what makes a public voting competition interesting. Provided one plays it fairly.
Any objective analysis is always welcome - all the posts here are emotional melodrama supporting/against this or that. Its funny to read them all together.
Its sickening to see that some people have made this their religio-political ground. Poll rigging is just one manifestation of fanatiscism. I agree with Marc that these guys need a life. They should better come up some solid analysis rather than going on harping about this or that is the best.

Toshi has become a bit of a show off after his Wild Card Entry!!!
His Mohd Rafi song of was far too inferior quality. There was no softness to the song.
I thought Abbas and Toshi were very good but the only one whose singing made me suspend my critique and just enjoy was Irfan. Does no one else notice Harshit’s lisp?? Every time he sings I hear his lisp clearly.He especially murders the soft romantic numbers with his lisp.
I am quite disheartened @ Irfan’s elimination. It further cements my theory that final’s already set to be b/w a wild card entrant vs. the one from the Top 4 prior to the wild card phase.. Which indicates Toshi vs. Harshit or Toshi vs. Abhaas…Chances of former being more.. For me, with Irfan’s elimination, the show’s a wrap. Have enjoyed coming here and watching the videos, so God bless y’all and the site creator for providing such amazing videos to all the fans out there

As far as this episode is concerned, in my opinion, toshi was good no doubt, when the contest began. But he’s no good now. In fact, all the singers seem to have deteriorated from the frst episode.
No comments other than that. At least they were all not singin n dancing like clowns in this episode.
I think fans of Toshi should actually listen to his frst few performances and then say how good or bad he is now, instead of jumping on the bandwagon and blowing trumpets…

Hi every one. it is heart breaking that Irfan has been eliminated ( at least this is the confirmed romur). However I am sure you all agree that this is part of the game, only one wins and regretfuly it was not Irfan. Now, the question remains, why any one of these contestants are being elimenated , is it based on their poor performance ? or it is just because some of them lack passionate supporters/voters? I think it is evident that lacking commited supporters/voters is the reason . I also think people vote not becuase he or she is/was a good talented singer, rather they vote because some one is from south, or some one is from north..etc ( do you guys know what I mean) . I do enourage all instead of giving bad comments about each other or any of the contestants, vote for the singer that you think deserves the title of VOI. Yesterday I confirmed with my brother who is in Star Plus and he told me at about 5 PM (just after vote count finished), that Harshit was trailing by a huge margin of votes and would be eliminated.
Later on at about 7 PM he sent me the SMS that Irfan has been eliminated (during live shoot). He could not say much if any politics was there or not but he too was surprised as Harshit was trailing by huge margin.
According to my brother it was Harshit who should have been eliminated as per the vote count but when they shot the programme they announced that Irfan was eliminated.
This confirms that the votes are just an eyewash.

Toshi and Irfan gave soulful renditions yet the according to the wires Irfan has been eliminated. I guess this so called public lacks an ear for melody. Ishmeet’s performance was mediocre and so was Abhaas’s xcept in the last couplet. Harshit’s voice resembles that of Kumar Sanu and hence is more suited for romantic songs. He should start seeking Aashirwaad of music directors Nadeem-Shravan. Anywho, once Irfan is gone SVOI will be rendered obsolete.

Hi Everyone, I am really sad about Irfan going out of the show. I was expecting HARSHIT to go out this time. Abhas was other weak contestant in qwaali round. He tries to imitate Rafi Sahib but fails miserably every time. He should stop playing with Rafi Sahib’s Songs. Ishmeet is a original voice, no doubt about that, but with some limitations for sure. Ishmeet can be groomed to become a great playback singer with his own style and voice. Toshi has got great energy levels and is fit for marriage parties and same sort of gatherings.
In all hontesty, it was Aabhas all the way. He did a great job on that song. Toshi’s face was worth watching when Aabhas and Irfan performed. He was under the mistaken impression that it was going to be him all the way. Anyhow, Toshi fans don’t be disheartened. He will surely win if he has the support of loyal followers like you who’d like to see him win and shut their eyes to all the other “better” performers.

I would like to say that Abhaas should be the winner. Look at his all performances, his sur-taal and Lay. He has given many outstanding persormances. He is even more impressive over other show (like sa re ga ma pa) participants. Second number should be Irfaan because he is also capable of singing variety of songs with hi pitch without becoming so flat and yes both these guys are singing their own voice and putting more than the original song. Toshi was good up to some extent but recent in shows he was flat and rough voice, ocource he has good gayaki, taalam-laya-sur. Overall Abhaas and Irfaan shows that they are number one and two. I salute their dedication for singing art. And many regards to their parents.

My take on the qawalli special:
Toshi: Superb voice quality and no one in the show can sing the high notes as well as he can but his voice did break on the “hai” in the song,but I would still rate him 9 on 10.
Ishmeet: He has a “sweet” voice as everyone proclaims.But it is high time he sweetly steps out.He has a good voice but it is not a powerful one compared to others on the show.He deserves the top five but not more.He also forgot a few words. 7 on 10
Abhaas: I think he had the best performance alongwith Toshi.He fell behind since he could not hit the high notes like Toshi else he would have topped. I would rate 9 on 10.
Irfan: Superb soulful song it was.He did not start well I thought but picked momentum later.Deserves the top 3 I feel.rate 9 on 10 primarily due to imparting soul to the show(as Pankaj Udhas rightly said)
Harshit: Has the best playback voice on the show undoubtedly but still needs to do well with diction and work on high notes rendering.He is definitely the best with romantic numbers,but the show has overall talent better than him.rightly rate 8 on 10.

I am really disappointed to learn that Irfan is voted out… he is very very good and deserves to be in the top 3 at least, if not voi.. I am starting to think that all this is simply made up, and VOI has already been pre-planned. Internet world is abuzz with the news that Irfan’s elimination is a case of cheating. While I do agree that he should not have been voted out this time, here are few points you should consider:
1. They can’t possibly be using manual counting…I mean its just not possible to count sms or internet votes manually.
2. Infact, summing up the sms and internet votes must have been an automated process. And hence, the final sorting and result should take hardly an hour.
3. So where is this funda of Harshit trailing till 5pm came from? Looks like somebody has planted an idea to mislead people and its spreading like forest fire!

True, the count of votes is an automated process, but the actual announcement of this result, to the public, is in human hands. And it does not take a prejudiced, biased human hand too much to tamper information. And as testimony, let us not forget today the greatest amount of malignant fraud happens in the automated world of internent finance.
So by virtue of being automated, the voting system does gain credibility, but by vile of being conveyed by humans who will do anything to attain their end, this information loses its credibility.
Irfan’s elimination can only be through cheating becuase I know of hundreds who voted twenty times each.
What we should remember is if you still from someone else’s plate, your greed is satiated but your stomach never gets filled. So those who have arranged the votes - cast by the hardwork and toil of the common man - in accordance to their fancy, will lose their face where it will hit them the hardest. Why shouldn’t Irfan, Abhilasha (Harshit and Ishmit if need be)given the same option ?
I can not understand how Ishmeet is still in the show. At least one of the girls should have been in the race. Harshit voice does not sound
new but he is a good singer. Irfan’s voice sounds original. Probably Toshi is the best, and
in girls it was Abhilasha, the kid was great.
CHOICE OF SONGS
I am not sure whether this point has been debated at any length on this forum.
We have had a number of discussions and analysed each performance and each singer. I am talking here of two things - variety and quality of songs.
In this regard of the Bemisaal Barah in my opnion there are really three worth commenting on - Arshpreet, Irfan and Toshi.
Sorry, but the remainder of the lot for me are not worth commenting on here because they choose to sing “popular filmi ghisey pitey -orchestra type songs”. Some of them have sung these well too, but this peice is not about the quality of singing, but the choice of songs.
The remainder of the three - Arshpreet, Irfan and Toshi have tried to present what I like to call in ’singing speak’ - hidden gems. Songs which we all love, but dont realise they are our favourites, because we dont listen to them often!
Songs like “Teri Aankhon ki chaahat mein to main sab kuchh bhula doonga” by Anwar from Janta Hawaldar.
In the choice of filmi hidden gems, I think Irfan has been the best of the lot. But I am a little disappointed that he also chose “film songs” in the qawwali round and the folk round. I think this is where he missed out on showing his real versatality. It is possible that due to his age he may not be exposed to the “non-film” genre.
I believe with a few exceptions, overall Arshpreet and Toshi have been the best in the choice of songs. They have displayed an element of “risk taking” in their choice of songs by presenting some not so well known songs which I as an artiste find appealing and I believe at a certain level even many audiences do too.
Risk taking and creativity are the most critical components of any form of art. Take these out and we have imitation.
Whilst I am not a great fan of Harshit, I would have loved to have heard from him a traditional non-filmi qawwali - something like “Man Kunto Maula” sung by Jaffar Hussain Khan Badauni. It would have suited his voice. But I am unsure whether he has even heard this qawwali or knows this qawwal!
Which brings us to the final point - by presenting only a certain kinds of songs - well known popular ghisa pita songs- these singers have shown us two things: (1) Lack of risk taking; (2) Lack of exposure or possibly even ignorance that other music also exists. Both of which are not signs of a true artiste!

I agree with you Zaki. This reminds me Lata Mangeshkar’s comments too, when VOI contestants went to meet her. She told them to song their own songs…not the popular ones sung by well known artists.
I hope when she comes for VOI final, she would be given a free hand to choose the winner!
