Abhaas sings Yeh Honsla
Abhaas was first to perform on stage and he sang one of my most favorite song ‘Yeh Honsla’ from the movie ‘Dor’.
Even though Abhaas sang well, somehow I couldn’t connect with his performance. The original song portrays pain, desperation and hope. Somehow for me, Abhaas couldn’t get all those emotions in this performance. May be it is because I have heard the original song way too many times. May be it is because the original song had two singers and it’s difficult for one person to sing and do full justice. Well… what do you think? Did you like his performance?

Abhaas seems to be worried about elimination and this may be interfering with his performance.
Just choose the right song, Abhaas, and belt it out. You are still the best.
The moment Shaan announced Salim-Sulaiman yesterday i KNEW Abhaas was gonna sing Yeh Honsla… i’d been looking forward to listening to that song on VOI (i wanted Irfan to sing it..)
Given that it IS a tough song, and also given that Abhaas had traces of a sore throat yesterday, he STILL could’ve sung much better… it was be-sura right from the beginning..
Abhaas is THE most talented singer there…i dont know why he messes up sometimes… c’mon Abhaas, buck up…
You should listen to Amanat of SRGMP 2007 singing this song. It was fabulous, in my opinion.
Yet again Paul Narula has edchoed my thoughts. When i heard Abhaas I couldn’t help but compare it to how Amanat had sung it. Had I not heard Amanat’s version I probably would have thought Abhaas had done a good job.
I thought he did a great job, maybe not his best, but then hey he did more than make it up through his Saturday’s performance. I am sad to see though that some people want to dismiss him only because of his age. Well, age is just a number and that applies to little wonders like him as well! Cheers Aabhas, go on! You rock!
abhas really needs to pull up on his performances, we all know he can sing but he’s just gotta pick up on his game! WOOO TOSHI IS OUT, C’MON ABHAAS BRING UP HOME
DIsmal performance!!!
was boring..spoilt the whole song..at this stage.. no one can really mess up lik this…and i feel VOI wil be jus lik II-3 results…
Abhaas performance was commendable coz he did not completely copy the song. That is a brave decision. I felt for the first time that he was not so much at ease with singing this song. At places one could see the effort - which is very unlike abhaas (I agree with Mahesh bhatts that Abhaas sings like he breathes). He went ‘off’ a couple of times but callingg it a “besura performance” is over the top. I am not sure when people use that word do they mean it technically or in a more colloquial sense implying that they didnt like the song.
I also felt that he was a bit tensed while singing this song and that hindered in the expression.
Abhaas is the ONLY singer who tries the greatest veriety and does justice to it. But it would probably be best that he now sticks to his very best for the coming two episodes.
No, i DINT like his performance at all……………………………… I think he was completely off scale in this song and yes, I do agree with J and add a little of mine to say that he completely lacked all emotions. He was singing for the sake of it and since, it is one of my all time favorite songs, and I could not tolerate someone do so much of injustice to this melodious and inspirational number.
Sorry to say, but it was a bad choice by Abhaas as his voice does not fit into the groove.. his voice s not made for songs with little sufi touches.
Give him a break. Remember he is only 17. It is too early to say what his voice is “not made for”. Only time will tell.
i AGREE..
Abhaas is THE BEST singer in VOI now..
He’s given us some TO DIE FOR performances right from the beginning (remember ‘hai duniya usi ki’ befor the bemisaal barah were picked? it still echoes in my ears..)
But, sorry to say, yeh honsla was besura, in the technical sense, right from the word go.. (check out the note LA in yeh honsLA)
Anyways, he more than made up with where’s the party tonight..
way to go, Abhaas (err…Shanti?) !
On analysis, Abhaas’ ‘bad’ peformance on 2rd November was due to the fact that he was living under the perpetual fear of being voted out. It told in his voice and expression. Have you EVER seen him like that in any episode?
Abhaas’ ‘bad’ peformance on 3rd November was due to the fact that he was suffering from a severe cold. It told in his voice and expression and face.
Check out his performance on Reliance STAR Mahotsav tonite (4th) at 10 P.M. (Indian Time). He is very much back in his original form!
There has been a sneak preview of this program over the past three days.
Awaiting your feedback/comments after the program tonite.
Thanks for clarification Raji. It makes him more interesting. Any other participant would have made a huge fuss about his cold etc. Abhaas i think has never used any emotional card (am i right?). he is always a happy chappy no matter what the result is. Way to go abhaas.
Yes AJ, how else would one explain Abhaas’s yesterday’s performance when he has given outstanding performances one after another? His rendition of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ still echoes in my ears……….especially the line ‘Rama avadh mein, Kashi mein shiv……….’. Unforgettable!!!
I hope SVOI listeners will rightly judge him and cast their votes for him only.
As you have rightly said, he is a one little happy-go-lucky chap who asks for votes in the most dignified way. Any very witty too!
I am his die-hard fan!
His fan following across India and particularly amongst the Mumbai Dabbawallahs. taxiwallahs, paanwallahs etc. was very much genuine. It was not something that they were forced to say as has been suggested in these columns.
I was starting to get hooked onto Toshi’s songs too but fate had other plans for him. I will miss Toshi! Let us enjoy the remainig episodes with an unbiased view and minus fanaticism!
yes satyam shivam sundaram was absolutely blissful. One of my favourites too. must say i liked it more than Lata’s version. I always feel that he has a very deep understanding of music. And it is not surprising since he considers Md. Rafi as his guru, the greatest ever….
AJ,
Though I liked his rendition of Satyam Shivam Sundaram, but I don’t think it was better than the original one..Just listen to the original one after listening Abhas’s version and you would know what I am talking about…
Anusha
No Anusha, AJ is right in what he is saying. You listen to the original sung by Lataji and then lsiten to Abhaas’s version. There is emotion, pathos and FINESSE in Abhaas’s rendition.
